LegalTerms & Conditions
Plain terms for a free educational website. Use it to learn and to teach; do not pass it off as your own or rely on it where getting it wrong would be costly.
Last updated 4 October 2026
The short version. Everything here is free to read and free to use in your own learning or teaching, with credit. Do not scrape it wholesale or republish it commercially without asking. The physics is checked carefully but offered without warranty — do not use it as the sole basis for anything with real consequences.
1. Agreement
By using transversewaves.com you accept these terms. If you do not accept them, please do not use the site. They apply to every page, including the interactive tools.
2. What you may do with the content
This site exists to be used. You are welcome, at no cost and without asking, to:
- read, bookmark and print any page for personal study;
- use the guides, diagrams and simulations in classroom teaching, lectures and tutoring;
- link to any page from anywhere;
- quote short passages in essays, coursework or articles, with attribution;
- set the quiz or the calculator as homework or revision.
Where you reproduce a diagram or a passage, please credit transversewaves.comand link back where the format allows it. That is a request rather than a legal demand for classroom use, and it is appreciated.
3. What requires permission
The written content, diagrams, simulations and source code of this site are protected by copyright. Without written permission, please do not:
- republish whole pages or substantial portions on another website or in print;
- sell, licence or include the content in a paid product, course or app;
- scrape or bulk-download the site, whether for a dataset, a mirror or to train a machine-learning model;
- remove attribution, or present the material as your own work;
- frame or embed pages in a way that misleads people about where the content came from.
Permission is often granted, and usually quickly — just ask at info@transversewaves.com and say what you have in mind.
4. Accuracy, and the limits of it
Every page is researched against published sources, numerical examples are worked rather than asserted, and the interactive tools compute from the actual equations rather than approximating the result. Errors are taken seriously and fixed promptly when reported.
Even so, the content is provided for educational purposes only and without warranty of any kind, express or implied. Physics values vary between sources and conditions; the boundaries between spectrum bands are conventions rather than facts; and simplifications are made throughout so that explanations stay comprehensible. Nothing here is professional, engineering, medical or safety advice.
Do not rely on this site alone for engineering calculations, safety assessments, radiation exposure decisions, medical judgements, or any academic submission where a primary source is required. Check against a textbook, a standard or a specialist.
5. The interactive tools
The simulator, calculator, spectrum explorer and quiz run entirely in your browser and are provided as teaching aids. They use idealised models — small-amplitude approximations, fixed constants, no damping or dispersion — and will not reproduce the behaviour of a real physical system in every respect. Results should be treated as illustrative. We do not guarantee that they are free of defects or that they will work in every browser.
6. Availability
The site is offered free of charge and on an "as available" basis. We make no promise that it will be uninterrupted, error-free or permanently online, and we may change, move or remove any page at any time without notice.
7. Limitation of liability
To the fullest extent permitted by law, we accept no liability for any loss or damage — direct, indirect, incidental or consequential — arising from your use of, or inability to use, this site or anything on it. This includes loss arising from reliance on the content, from errors or omissions, and from any interruption to the service.
Nothing in these terms excludes or limits liability for death or personal injury caused by negligence, for fraud or fraudulent misrepresentation, or for anything else that cannot lawfully be excluded.
8. External links
Pages link to other websites for references and further reading. Those sites are not under our control, and a link is not an endorsement of their content, accuracy or practices. Once you follow a link, their terms and privacy policy apply, not ours.
9. Acceptable use
You agree not to use this site to:
- attempt to gain unauthorised access to the site, its host or any connected system;
- interfere with its operation, including by automated requests at a rate that degrades the service for others;
- introduce malicious code of any kind;
- do anything unlawful, or anything that infringes someone else's rights.
10. Privacy
How your data is handled — which is to say, barely at all — is set out in the privacy policy, which forms part of these terms. The site sets two analytics cookies to count page views, and one click opts you out of both.
11. Changes to these terms
These terms may be updated from time to time. The "last updated" date at the top of this page always reflects the current version, and continuing to use the site after a change means you accept the revised terms.
12. Governing law
These terms are governed by the laws of England and Wales, and the courts of England and Wales have exclusive jurisdiction over any dispute arising from them. If you are a consumer resident elsewhere, this does not deprive you of the protection of mandatory consumer-protection rules in your country of residence.
13. Contact
Questions about these terms, or requests for permission, go to info@transversewaves.com. Corrections to the physics are especially welcome — see the contact page.
